The Trek experience will help each youth to:
- Be smitten by the Spirit of Elijah and take a family name to the temple.
- Gain an appreciation for our pioneer heritage and a gratitude for the faith they exercised and the sacrifices they made to establish the Church in the Rocky Mountains.
- Gain an understanding that the Savior's mission was, and is, a mission of rescue and that we all need His rescuing atonement to survive life's journey.
- Feel a desire and responsibility to "embark in the service of God" by responding to the Savior's invitation to reach and rescue all of His children within our influence.
Pioneer Stories: Each week we will post a pioneer story or thought of some kind on the HOME page of this blog that you can use in your Wednesday/Sunday Opening Exercises. As you share the stories, remember to emphasize a principle of the gospel that that story exemplifies and apply it to the lives of our youth today. Feel free to have the youth take turns sharing the story and applying the doctrine or have them share one from their own family history.
Pioneer Hymns: There are songs posted under the TREK MUSIC tab that we will be singing during Trek. Start singing the pioneer hymns now in your meetings so the youth can sing them from memory by summer.
We encourage you to fill the upcoming spring and summer months with 100s of spiritual moments and tender testimonies as you learn about, and come to love the Mormon pioneers.
Wo, wo, wo unto the leader or parent that yields to the temptation to become so focused on temporal preparation that the spiritual aspect of preparation is overlooked. The experience of Trek is more than a bonnet or a bucket. We encourage you to keep the "stuff" simple and focus on family history and gaining a heartfelt love for our pioneer heritage.
Monthly Focus: To help leaders and families prepare for Trek, the stake is focusing on one aspect of preparation during each month leading up to Trek. Please visit the MONTHLY FOCUS tab for information about each month.
