Family History Challenge

Family History Challenge

In the Spirit of Elijah and the SECOND RESCUE, we invite all participants involved in Trek to complete the Family History Challenge.  This Challenge is actually the "Youth Temple Challenge" that was extended by Elder Neil L. Anderson to the youth of the Church.

Since the Stake Presidency has issued the same challenge to our stake "family" which is every member of our stake 12 years and older, (in conjunction with our Stake Plan for 2015) we are calling it the Family History Challenge instead.  Below is a link to a step by step video tutorial for how to:
  1. Find a family name on Family Search
  2. Print an ordinance sheet to take to the temple
We invite all members of the Stake to join us in Reaching and Rescuing at least one family ancestor this year.

Elder David A. Bednar: An Invitation with a Promise, Oct. 2013

The Invitation:   “I invite the young people of the Church to learn about and experience the Spirit of Elijah. I encourage you to study, to search out your ancestors and to prepare yourselves to perform proxy baptisms in the house of the Lord for your kindred dead (see D&C 124:28–36). And I urge you to help other people identify their family histories.

The Promise:  “As you respond in faith to this invitation, your hearts shall turn to the fathers. The promises made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob will be implanted in your hearts. Your patriarchal blessing, with its declaration of lineage, will link you to these fathers and be more meaningful to you. Your love and gratitude for your ancestors will increase. Your testimony of and conversion to the Savior will become deep and abiding. And I promise you will be protected against the intensifying influence of the adversary. As you participate in and love this holy work, you will be safeguarded in your youth and throughout your lives. . . .

Attention all ward YM and YW Leaders

Please involve Ward Family History Specialists, High Priest Quorums and parents in helping teach the youth.  President Zaccardi has made learning how to find and take family history names to the temple, and then performing those ordinances a top priority for our stake.  May we, as ward families, seek the Spirit of Elijah and embrace this opportunity to serve with our youth.
